Why You Could Put a 2 Person Tent Into The Outdoor Cat House

by admin

When building an outdoor cat house they are only limited by your imagination as to what can be done with them. Naturally much depends upon what foundation you have to start with. It is so easy if there is a roof already erected as in a patio attached to a house. However what if you have an enclosure and for various reasons attaching a roof is not possible what can be done? As we said it is only the imagination that will limit you as to what the final product is like when creating an outdoor cat house.

What would be perfect in this outdoor cat house?

The one pictured here is excellent as a starting point but obviously needs plenty of additions to make it appealing to any self respecting cat/ cat owner. The real issue here is that there is no roof. One of the solutions here could be a small 2 person tent being placed inside the outdoor cat house for weather protection for your cats. I have seen this done and the cats love it. A 2 person tent is especially effective against light to moderate showers and shade on an average spring day. Obviously in this case because an instant tent like this is not suitable for any extreme weather conditions there must be access into the house for the cats.

The cats actually enjoy snuggling in amongst the cushions and pillows arranged inside the tent on a cold day. Ensure the tent comes with a bucket floor so it is waterproof and no damp can come in from the floor. The door can be left down and unzipped if your cat prefers their privacy otherwise just leave the door open. A 2 person tent is small enough to be easily manageable but perfect for the cats. Your cats will love to sleep outside on a summer’s night in their tent and wander out when ever some noise of interest arouses them.

These tents are not going to protect your cats from hot sun, high temperatures or heavy rains so it is imperative that they can use their cat door to get back inside the house when needed. Also litter boxes cannot be left in the weather so your cats will certainly need access to the inside for those purposes. You will be pleasantly surprised how inexpensive a tent that could be used for this purpose is actually going to be. It should come in at about thirty dollars. These types of tents, depending upon the model, may offer the ability to peg them to the ground or may come stand alone.

Now they have some protection from the weather, bare cat runs like these are going to need something of interest in them. Otherwise it is little more than a jail for them. Simply an enclosure to confine your cats is not desirable. Cat enclosures without a roof have limitations because standard cat toys and furniture cannot be left out in the weather. However a tree log hauled into the enclosure will make a welcome diversion as will any sort of wooden climbing frame. Cats love to be up high. They were designed to climb and get off the ground. Ensure any tree logs are not full of ants before putting them into enclosures! An area like this would accommodate a few good green weeds that the cats can chew on as cat grass. Once this is all accomplished it should keep your furry friends happy and safe while you are at work during the day!

For goodness sake don’t tell my Jasper he can have his own tent AND cushions! He rules the house as it is. Right now, at midday, he’s stretched out on the back of the sofa, having spent an active morning moving from his warm spot on the children’s beds.
He’s lucky here, as we have a two acre garden which connects to the forest, so he’s got plenty of room to wander.
I just wish he’d stop bringing baby rabbits home. We love ‘em, but have to nurse them back to health before sending the back to the wild.
Any outdoor small animal enclosure must be part covered. Our new super expanded rabbit/guinea pig run has boarding at one end, with a short roof, so that they can shelter from the regular British rainsrtorms, and from the irregular British sunshine too. AS with cats, lots of toys, so they don’t get bored. (That’s when they’re awake of course).
